• "Tala med någon" vs. "prata med någon" is similar to "speak to someone" vs. "talk to someone" in tone, with tala being slightly more formal than prata, but still not highly formal. Tala is the natural word choice when going for a more formal or proper tone, and might conversely sound a bit stilted if used consistently in casual conversation.
• Tala is more idiomatic than prata for speaking in the general sense, not implying conversation, as well as for speaking a language or the like.
• "Att tala" can also mean to make a speech, synonymous with "att hålla tal."
