Wordplay

Wordplay was the act of exploiting features of words, such as multiple meanings for the same word, in order to create a puzzle or joke.

In 2376, Tuvok dismissed Neelix's riddle about eating the "dates (dates)" from a calendar as "wordplay", with "no basis in reality". Later, however, he offered an alternate solution - eating the "sundaes (Sundays)" (VOY: "Riddles")

Another example of wordplay is the anagram, of which Dulmur and Lucsly (Mulder and Scully - though the former is misspelled - and PRO: "A Moral Star, Part 1", "A Moral Star, Part 2" (Tars Lamora) are examples.
