The Vornilians were a sentient species.

Captain Carol Freeman of the USS Cerritos possessed a gratitude mask from when Ensign Beckett Mariner gave the Vornilians root juice. This was one of the "side missions" they undertook following the Cerritos' battle with the Pakleds in late 2380. (LD: "Strange Energies")
