Verbalization

Verbalization was the act of expressing a thought or idea in words, either by speaking or writing it down.

In 2366, after Lal bluntly accused Haftel of not speaking to her father Data with respect, Haftel noted that Data hadn't taught her how to use "selective judgment in the verbalization of your own thoughts" (i.e. think before she spoke). (TNG: "The Offspring")
