USS Nova

The USS Nova (NCC-73515) was a 24th century Federation starship operated by Starfleet.

History

In 2379 the Nova, assigned to Star Fleet Battle Group Omega, was redirected to sector 1045 to rendezvous with the USS Enterprise-E, which was returning from Romulan space with the Reman warbird Scimitar, under the command of Shinzon, in pursuit. The Enterprise was forced to face the Scimitar without the support of the fleet, however, when Shinzon ambushed the Enterprise in the Bassen Rift. (Star Trek Nemesis)

Background information

According to Star Trek: Starship Spotter (p. 36), this ship was a Nova-class starship, although it had a higher registry number than the USS Equinox and USS Rhode Island of that same class. After the mysterious disappearance of the Equinox in 2371, the Nova was extensively studied to find out if there was a design flaw in the class.

The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 2, p. 89 identified this ship as the prototype of the Nova-class.

Separately, the Decipher RPG supplementary book Starships assigned the registry NX-72230 to the USS Nova in defiance of the onscreen list in Star Trek Nemesis.
