USS Intrepid (NCC-74600)
The USS Intrepid (NCC-74600) was a 24th century Federation starship operated by Starfleet.
History
In 2370, Commander Donald Kaplan, the ship's chief engineer, regularly engaged in power conversion efficiency contests with Geordi La Forge, chief engineer of the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Force of Nature")
In 2375, Commander Chakotay, under the alias Jason Hayek, infiltrated a Species 8472 terrasphere that was simulating Starfleet Command. Chakotay fabricated a story about just having been transferred from the Intrepid. Boothby was surprised to hear this, because he thought the ship was on a three-year tour patrolling the Neutral Zone. (VOY: "In the Flesh")
In 2379, the Intrepid was in Star Fleet Battle Group Omega, deployed in sector 1045 to counter the Reman threat. (Star Trek Nemesis)
By 2401 the Intrepid had been succeeded by USS Intrepid (NCC-79520). (PIC: "Imposters")

Background information
The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 1, p. 374 described the Intrepid as the prototype for the Intrepid-class starship. It was assumed by the authors of this reference work that this was the third Federation Starfleet ship named Intrepid. This interpretation was also affirmed by Star Trek: Picard production designer Dave Blass, who also provided further confirmation of name and registry on Twitter. [1]
According to Star Trek: Starship Spotter, the USS Intrepid and the USS Voyager were the first two Intrepid-class starships to be constructed at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in 2370 and early-2371.
Apocrypha
The 1995 Pocket TNG novel Crossover instead depicted the Intrepid of 2371 as a Galaxy-class starship under the command of Captain Terence Riley (β), son of Kevin Riley.
The novel Demons of Air and Darkness, from the Star Trek: Gateways crossover series, shows the Intrepid commanded by Captain Walter Emick (β) in a fleet alongside the Deep Space 9 crew in 2376. The Intrepid was also mentioned in Articles of the Federation.
