USS Kerala

The USS Kerala (NCC-1255) was a Shepard-class Federation starship operated by Starfleet during the mid-23rd century.

History

In 2256, the Kerala participated in the armed conflict against a Klingon fleet at the Battle of the Binary Stars. (DIS: "Battle at the Binary Stars")

Background information

According to Issue #3 of the Star Trek: Discovery The Official Starships Collection, the Kerala was named after a state in India, where in the 20th century the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology was located.

In 2025, Star Trek Online introduced the Kerala class, a late-23rd-century successor to the Shepard class, named in honor of the Shepard-class U.S.S. Kerala which fought at the Binary Stars. [1]
