Targalan
The Targalans were a spacefaring humanoid species native to Targalus IX. They were distinguished by orange skin, purple hair, and extremely long ears, the tips of which they typically tied together atop their heads. (LD: "Shades of Green")
History
In 2382, the Targalans transitioned from a currency-based capitalist economy to a post-scarcity society after developing replicators. A planet-wide celebration was held on Targalus IX, featuring fireworks, a ticker tape parade using paper money as well as confetti, paper money bonfires, and commemorative t-shirts with slogans such as "no cash accepted" and "no money no problems".
In addition, the Targalans joined the United Federation of Planets. The USS Cerritos was assigned to assist them in disposing of their obsolete wealth, including massive quantities of gold and gemstones.
However, the former rich elite of the planet formed terrorist cells across the continent in a futile attempt to regain their power. One of these cells, a couple, abducted Ensigns Gorm and Mackler. Lieutenants jg Beckett Mariner and Brad Boimler followed them to their mansion, where they found the ensigns apparently dead. The terrorists proved to be ill-prepared for their aims and fled the scene; it then emerged that Gorm and Mackler had faked their deaths via the bite of the tie-dyed coma beetle.
After returning to the Cerritos, Mariner and Boimler gave D'Vana Tendi an idea of how to restore her family's recently lost financial status. House Tendi made an agreement with Captain Carol Freeman to take over responsibility for "disposing" of all the Targalans' wealth. (LD: "Shades of Green")
Society and culture

As part of their post-capitalist transition, the Targalans converted all former financial structures, such as banks and stock exchanges, into public facilities like museums, meditation gardens, and animal hospitals. They had beer, and food resembling hamburgers that incorporated small lizard-like animals. The Targalans utilized anti-gravity vehicles - such as hovercars, hovercruisers, and hover-vans - as well as airships. Other Targalan technology included disruptor weaponry, and household robot servants with limited artificial intelligence. (LD: "Shades of Green")
