Sylvia Tilly (mirror)

Alternate mirror universes

"I'm nothing like her, Michael. She's terrifying, she's… she's like a twisted version of everything I've ever aspired to be. I'm gonna have nightmares about myself now."
Sylvia Tilly, to Michael Burnham, 2256 ("Despite Yourself")

Captain Sylvia Tilly was a female Terran Imperial Starfleet officer who lived during the mid-23rd century.

By 2255, she was the captain of the ISS Discovery. She had assumed command by killing the ship's previous captain, who had been recovering from the Crestian flu.

Prior to Discovery, she had been at the Imperial Starfleet Academy. Among the locations where which she distinguished herself during her career were Quam, Elpha, and Purmata VI. She was also known as "The Slayer of Sorna Prime", "The Witch of Wurna Minor", and "Captain Killy". (DIS: "Despite Yourself", "Terra Firma, Part 1")

Working closely with Emperor Georgiou, who claimed they had great fun together, they subjugated the Betazoids and "wiped out" Mintaka III. (DIS: "Will You Take My Hand?")

During her career, she won the Valor, Master of Poisons, and 50 Kills medals. (DIS: "Despite Yourself")

Background information

Like her prime universe counterpart, Tilly was portrayed by Mary Wiseman.

Tilly was presumably killed when the ISS Discovery was destroyed in the prime universe, as noted in DIS: "The War Without, The War Within".

Apocrypha

The mirror Tilly and the ISS Discovery appear in the "Mirror of Discovery" storyline in Star Trek Online, as part of the game's 9th anniversary in January 2019; she is voiced by Mary Wiseman, who also voices her "original" counterpart. When the USS Discovery transited to the mirror universe in DIS: "Into the Forest I Go", the ISS Discovery in fact landed in the 25th century of the prime universe in the middle of an ion storm in orbit of Pahvo. Tilly is dealing both with Klingon raiders and a mutiny amongst her own crew, and requests the assistance of the player character. When she regains control of her ship, however, Tilly beams to the surface and begins subverting the Pahvan transmitters with agonizer energy, converting the crystal towers into powerful weapons and disrupting the Pahvans' natural harmony. The player is forced to beam to the surface to face Tilly and disable her agonizer generators; wounded and beaten, Tilly uses the transmitter as a long-range transporter, escaping to an unknown destination. To avoid incarceration in Federation custody, the ISS Discovery's acting commander chooses to take the ship back to the 23rd century, hoping to reach their home universe, but it will end up being destroying by the prime universe Klingons, as revealed in DIS: "The War Without, The War Within".

Wiseman returns as Captain "Killy" in the mission "Red Shift", released for the game's 12th anniversary in January 2022. Still in the 25th century, and now commanding the ISS Enterprise-F, Tilly is teamed with the mirror counterparts of Kathryn Janeway, the Lukari captain Kuumaarke, and the player character for a raid on Jupiter Station to claim a "prize" for Emperor Wesley Crusher. Tilly is also revealed to have prior history with the player character's mirror counterpart, known as "the Inquisitor", having wounded them to the point of requiring an artificial voicebox to speak. When the team secures the "prize", revealed to be the long-lost Lieutenant Ilia, Tilly, Kuumaarke, and the Inquisitor turn on Janeway and claim glory for themselves, returning to the mirror universe with the "prize".

Tilly returns in the missions "Blue Shift" and "The Calling" in May 2022. Tilly and her allies have obtained the necessary data from Ilia to reach out to "the Other", the mirror universe's version of V'Ger, for the Emperor. Tilly explains during "The Calling" that she had been transported from the prime universe Pahvo to the mirror Pahvo, which is a blasted wasteland known as "the Terrans' Graveyard". Tilly uses her ability to weaponize the mirror Pahvo's crystals to gain favor with the Emperor, and uses Pahvo's power against a fleet (including the player character) sent to stop her, as well as to send a message through deep space to summon "the Other". In the mission "The Eye of the Storm", released in September 2022, Tilly and the Inquisitor join Emperor Crusher in his bid to gain control of "the Other" and merge his own considerable powers with it to become a god. While the Inquisitor expresses doubts about the plan, Tilly remains fanatically devoted to the Emperor. As Emperor Crusher begins his ascension, the party is confronted by Admiral Leeta, who tries to convince them that Crusher is mad and will destroy all universes, including their own. The Inquisitor is convinced, and turns on Tilly; a blast from the Inquisitor's phaser pushes her into the energy field building around the Emperor, instantly digitizing her.
