Summary justice

Summary justice was a type of judgment that was administered summarily, that is, without the trappings of a formal trial.

During the drumhead trials of 19th century Earth, military officers would dispense summary justice while on the battlefield while sitting on an upended drum. Decisions were quick, punishments severe, and appeals denied. Those who came to a drumhead were said to be doomed. (TNG: "The Drumhead")
