A sequencer was a type of tool that was used to organize things into a sequence.

Jenna D'Sora used a sequencer in 2367 while reconfiguring photon torpedoes as probes in the Mar Oscura Nebula with Data. (TNG: "In Theory")

The term sequencer was a more generic term and encompassed tools used for medical purposes such as base pair sequencers, music like the chronographic sequencer, the Borg's autonomous regeneration sequencer, general technology such as the command sequencer, interlink sequencer, or restart sequencer, or components of ships and other vehicles like the auto-ascent sequencer, AQF sequencer, auto-destruct sequencer, or environmental control sequencer.
