Regulus (planet)

Regulus was an inhabited planet in the Alpha Leonis system. Located in the Beta Quadrant, this planet was approximately 79 light years from Sol and 300 light years from the Bajoran system.

In 2254, Captain Christopher Pike, in a conversation with CMO Boyce, spoke of resigning from Starfleet service and going into business on this planet. (TOS: "The Cage", "The Menagerie, Part I")

This planet's quadrant of origin was inferred based on the position of its star system as seen in the star charts appearing in the Star Trek: Discovery episode "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad" and in the Star Trek: Picard episode "Maps and Legends".
The planet Regulus was first mentioned in Gene Roddenberry's 1964 series proposal "Star Trek is...". In "A Question of Cannibalism", one of multiple suggested story ideas proffered by Roddenberry, Regulus was home to an Earth colony. Robert April, captain of the SS Yorktown, discovered that the "cow-like creatures" farmed on Regulus are actually sentient beings.
