Luq

Luq was a male Kalar who worked in a stone quarry under High Lord Zacarias during the mid-23rd century. As a "field Kalar", he regularly lost his memories due to exposure to exotic radiation. To maintain his identity, he relied on words imprinted on his skin and a totem depicting his people's history in his hut.

Luq once had a family and a son, but lost them. The pain of this was so great that he covered over the words on his arm that mentioned them, so that he would forget their existence.

In 2259, Luq noticed Christopher Pike, La'An Noonien-Singh, and Joseph M'Benga in a cage outside Zacarias' palace. Recognizing that all three were confused from having recently lost their memories, he interceded on their behalf and instructed them in what was expected of field Kalar laborers.

After an altercation with their guards left Noonien-Soong injured, Luq assisted Pike and M'Benga in infiltrating the palace and defeating Zacarias. Once he entered the palace, which was shielded against radiation, Luq regained his memories of his family. Despite his renewed grief, he thanked Pike for helping him remember, and affirmed that all field Kalar should know their pasts. (SNW: "Among the Lotus Eaters")
