Liniment

A liniment was a type of lotion applied to the skin to alleviate muscle pain.

In 1893, a 49er approached Data, claiming to suffer from old mining injuries, and asked him for whiskey to use as a liniment. Data had none to give him. (TNG: "Time's Arrow")
