Kaphar was a location.

In 2401, the SS Eleos XII fled to Kaphar after being attacked by an unknown enemy at Sarnia Prime. They were attacked again by the same force, acting through Klingons, and forced to flee again to Exo-Port. (PIC: "The Next Generation", "Disengage")
