Hugo Villasenor is a make-up artist who, as the Proteus Make-up FX Team's shop foreman, has worked on Star Trek.

He subsequently became employed as key special effects makeup artist on the first and second seasons of Star Trek: Discovery and the second and third seasons of Star Trek: Picard, which has earned him Emmy Award co-nominations in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023, the 2019 one won. He also worked as additional makeup artist on the Star Trek: Short Treks episode "Runaway". All his work for Kurtzman-era Star Trek he did in the employ of CBS Television Studios' own inhouse makeup department headed by James MacKinnon.

Career

A 2004 graduate from the Make-Up Designory School, Burbank, California, [1] and plying his trade henceforth as a freelancer, Villasenor was also Proteus' make-up shop supervisor on the 2006 film Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. He was part of the Proteus FX make-up effects team on the 2005 low-budget horror film aptly named Snuff-Movie and more recently worked with the team as an assistant make-up artist on the upcoming horror movie, The Lost Tribe.

Outside of his work with Proteus, Villasenor provided special make-up effects for the 2005 major motion picture adaptation of C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. His other film credits include Sasquatch Mountain (featuring Tiny Ron and Craig Wasson) and Big Game (starring Star Trek: Voyager's Ethan Phillips).
