This was a binary system with a pair of M-type stars.

History

In the 2360s, this system was near the Klingon-Romulan border.

In 2368, Jean-Luc Picard's blockade fleet retreated to this system to regroup and establish a new tachyon detection grid, after their initial grid had been disabled by Romulan warbirds that sought to help the House of Duras in the Klingon Civil War. However, this proved unnecessary, as the USS Sutherland was able to detect the cloaked Romulan forces by another method, before they reached Gamma Eridon. (TNG: "Redemption II")

Stellar cartography

In 2256, the system's location, and its affiliation with the empire, was marked on a star chart in the ready room of the USS Discovery. (DIS: "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad", "The War Without, The War Within") A year later, its location was labeled on the star chart showing the trajectory of Lieutenant Spock's shuttle. (DIS: "An Obol for Charon")

The system's location was labeled on a stellar cartography chart seen on the USS Enterprise's main viewscreen in 2258, as well as on the Enterprise's ready room viewscreen in 2259. This system's symbol was a red Klingon Empire logo, indicating its affiliation with the empire. (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2", SNW: "Strange New Worlds", "Spock Amok")

On stardate 1292.4, the location of this system was labeled in a chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. (Star Trek: Section 31)

In 2371, the system's location was labeled in the star chart Data and Picard were studying in Stellar cartography aboard the USS Enterprise-D. (Star Trek Generations, display graphic)

The system's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. In the script for "Redemption II", Gamma Eridon was listed in the pronunciation guide, where the term was pronounced "gam-uh AIR-ih-don".

Information on this system's stars came from these sources. The Gamma Eridon system was identified as a Klingon system in a star chart created by Scribe K'Tark in the Year of Kahless 893 (2266) for the Klingon High Council.

In the Bayer designation, which was a system of stellar classification, the Greek letter indicated the brightness of a star in a constellation. In this case, Gamma Eridon would be the 3rd brightest star in its constellation

In the game Star Trek: Armada, the Gamma Eridon system was infested by the Borg, and Chancellor Martok launched an attack to destroy all enemy forces in the system.
