Folk song

A folk song or folk melody was a type of song. Both country and blues fell into this category.

In 2369, Jean-Luc Picard described the song he was playing on a Ressikan flute for Nella Daren as an old folk melody. He later added that he learned it on the planet Kataan. (TNG: "Lessons")

The Earth ditty "Oh My Darling, Clementine" was an example of an early American folk song. In 2376, The Doctor explained this to Tincoo, who was unaware that there were other kinds of music. (VOY: "Virtuoso")
