Exploration

Exploration was the activity of traveling through an environment for the purpose of learning and making discoveries about it. One who conducted exploration was called an explorer. A type of exploration was space exploration.

In 2365, according to Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Starfleet was not a military organization as its purpose was exploration. (TNG: "Peak Performance")
