Deneva colony

The Deneva colony was one of the oldest Earth colonies. This colony was found on the planet Deneva Prime in the Deneva system, which was located in the Beta Quadrant, and was approximately 76 light years from Sol.

The colony was established prior to the 2150s as a freighting line base for mining in the sector's asteroid belt. In 2153, the ECS Horizon was enroute to Deneva Station. (ENT: "Horizon")

In the 2260s, the planet had a population of just under a million, with over 100,000 people in the capital city alone.

In 2267, the colony was infested by flying parasites, killing several colonists, including George Samuel Kirk. The USS Enterprise investigated the situation, and Captain James T. Kirk was forced to consider destroying the colony to stop the parasites' spread. However, a better solution was found; satellites were placed around the planet bathing it in ultraviolet light, destroying only the parasites. (TOS: "Operation -- Annihilate!")

The city exteriors for Deneva were shot on location at the TRW Space and Defense Park in Redondo Beach, near Los Angeles. Filming took place on Wednesday 15 February 1967. The establishing shot of Kirk's brother's lab was a building on the campus of UCLA, and the entrance to the building was the cafeteria at TRW. The current location of Deneva colony in the Beta Quadrant was based on the most recent star charts seen in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Section 31.
