The character Dixon Hill first appeared in the pulp magazine Amazing Detective Stories copyright 1934 AD. His second appearance was in the novel The Long Dark Tunnel copyright 1936 AD, according to USS Enterprise-D's computer. (TNG: "The Big Goodbye")
