Control (psychology)
Control was the concept of control in one's life.
In 2373, when constructing a Keethera as a meditation technique, Lieutenant Tuvok recited the following mantra: "Structure. Logic. Function. Control. The structure cannot stand without a foundation. Logic is the foundation of function. Function is the essence of control. I am in control. I am in control." (VOY: "Flashback")
That same year, Marayna told Lieutenant Tuvok that she enjoyed the excitement of the water, of being tossed around by wind and waves, but feeling like she was in control. Tuvok replied that this was an illusion of control and she agreed that this was exactly right, that nobody could control the wind and the waves, but when on the water during a perfect ride, you could feel like you could. She asked if he had ever felt that and when he replied that he had not, she asked if he didn't have an imagination. He replied that all Vulcans had a highly advanced imagination and she then asked him to imagine that with his logic and reason that he was skimming atop endless waves of emotion, that he believed himself in control, but knew it to be an illusion. (VOY: "Alter Ego")
When asked if he would like something to drink by the Species 8472 Valerie Archer replicant, Commander Chakotay asked for water, prompting Archer to ask if Chakotay was a teetotaler. Chakotay responded that he liked to remain in control. (VOY: "In the Flesh")
