Civic duty

Civic duty was something one was compelled to do as part of their participation in a community.

In 2374, during a period of low morale on Deep Space 9 following the discovery of an ancient Bajoran tablet prophesying about the Reckoning, Quark declared that he felt it to be his civic duty to extend happy hour at Quark's indefinitely, at least until business improved. (DS9: "The Reckoning")
