Carina

Resembling the keel of a ship, Carina was a constellation visible from Earth's southern hemisphere. This constellation contained the star Canopus, which was the second brightest star in Earth's night sky. Astronomical objects in this constellation were located in the Beta Quadrant. The name of this constellation was derived from Alpha Carinae's Bayer designation. In Bayer designation, the name begins with a Greek letter followed by a genitive of the constellation's name.
Until 1763, this constellation was a part of the larger constellation Argo Navis.
