A bill was a document that showed money owed in payment.

In 1893, Samuel Clemens agreed to settle a bill for the services of Mrs. Carmichael's boarding house. (TNG: "Time's Arrow, Part II")

In 2380, Beckett Mariner ignored parking citations she'd received on Tulgana IV, saying the authorities couldn't send her a bill in space. (LD: "Envoys")
