History

After the forces loyal to Gowron had suffered a major defeat in the Mempa sector during the Klingon Civil War, they were forced into a full-scale retreat and had to regroup near Beta Lankal. (TNG: "Redemption II")

Stellar cartography

In 2256, the system's location was labeled on the star chart "Alpha/Beta Quadrant Overview" in the ready room aboard the USS Discovery. (DIS: "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad", "The War Without, The War Within")

A year later, the system's location was labeled on the star chart showing the trajectory of Lieutenant Spock's shuttle. (DIS: "An Obol for Charon")

In 2259, the location of this system was labeled on a stellar cartography chart that was seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. This system's symbol was a red Klingon Empire logo, indicating its affiliation with the empire. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds", "Spock Amok")

In 2324, the location of this system was labeled in a chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. (Star Trek: Section 31)

The system's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. The Beta Lankal system was in or near to Klingon space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")

In the script, the pronunciation for Beta Lankal was "bay-tah lan-KAL". [1]|This location was identified as a system in the Star Trek: Star Charts and in the Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library. This source material was used to create the star charts seen in both Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard.

The class of the system's primary came from these sources. The Beta Lankal system was identified as a Klingon system in a star chart created by Scribe K'Tark in the Year of Kahless 893 (2266) for the Klingon High Council.

In the Bayer designation, which was a system of stellar classification, the Greek letter indicated the brightness of a star in a constellation. In this case, Beta Lankal would be the 2nd brightest star in its constellation
