Abalone

Abalone (genus Haliotis) were a type of edible shelled univalve mollusk native to Earth.

As a child, Joann Owosekun went freediving in the Ogbunike Caves to collect abalone, holding her breath for periods of at least ten minutes. She described doing so for both tradition and sustenance to the bridge crew of the USS Discovery in 3189. (DIS: "That Hope Is You, Part 2")
