Trump Card (Japanese: きりふだ Trump Card) is a damage-dealing Normal-type move introduced in Generation IV.

Effect

Trump Card inflicts damage and bypasses accuracy checks to always hit, unless the target is in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move such as Dig or Fly.

Trump Card's power depends on the move's remaining PP after use, powering up when its PP is lower. Trump Card's power is calculated as follows:

Remaining PP after use Power
4+ 40
3 50
2 60
1 80
0 200

Trump Card takes into account the PP lost from Spite and Pressure. However, Trump Card does not interact with Eerie Spell and G-Max Depletion (which are not available in the same games).

Trump Card will always consider the current PP at the time of execution of the move, even in cases where PP is restored by Lunar Dance or a held Leppa Berry.

When Trump Card is called by another move such as Metronome or Assist, it will instead use the PP of that move with the same chart applying.

Generation VIII onwards

Trump Card cannot be selected in a battle.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

Trump Card inflicts damage. Its damage depends on the move's PP.

In the Explorers series, Trump Card's damage is multiplied by 1.5×, 2×, and 2.5× at 70%, 50%, and 20% PP left, respectively. In Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, the power of the move is increased approximately by 30%, 60%, 90%, and 120%, if the move has 4, 3, 2, or 1 PP, respectively.

Trivia

  • Most of Trump Card's animations depict it as slicing the opponent. This may be because its Japanese name, read in kanji, contains 切り kiri, meaning "cut".
