The deck archetype quickly picked up traction from the release of Eevee Grove for its ability to quickly set up winning board states, becoming a prominent archetype of the format.
With Professor's Research being the only prominent draw power in the TCG Pocket format, Sylveon ex provides a massive boost in draw power by drawing two cards upon Evolution. This notably improves the consistency of picking up Rare Candy to evolve Froakie into Greninja as soon as possible and start dealing damage with its Water Shuriken Ability; a good setup allows for 80 to 90 damage per turn as early as turn 4 when going second. Giratina ex also serves as a strong win condition for the deck, pairing with Greninja for 150 damage in a turn - enough to knock out most opponents after Water Shuriken chip damage. Water Shuriken also ensures the deck can put out damage while ramping Energy with Broken-Space Bellow, which ends the turn when used.
Running both and Energy allows both Sylveon ex and Greninja to attack, allowing the deck to pivot between slower Giratina ex setups and early aggression depending on the game while allowing Giratina ex to charge up faster. Greninja's ability to damage the Bench at will also makes Cyrus playable at 2 copies to pick off weak Benched Pokémon.
Weaknesses
Sylveon ex and Greninja focuses on getting to a win condition faster than the opponent with their massive resource generation as Sylveon and Greninja both have middling damage output and HP by themselves. Consequently, the deck is weak to opponents that can set up high-damage and/or high-bulk threats quickly, such as Solgaleo ex and Shining RevelryCharizard ex, particularly since most of the deck's Pokémon give out 2 points when defeated.
The rapid deck-thinning from Sylveon ex can also potentially be undone by Mars and Red Card.
Key cards
Sylveon ex - While average in terms of HP and damage, Sylveon's ability to draw two cards easily gives the deck double the normal amount of card draw. This allows the deck to quickly and consistently put out key attackers.
Greninja - The deck's proficiency at quickly drawing cards allows Greninja's Water Shuriken to start dealing damage very early on.
Giratina ex - With Broken-Space Bellow, Giratina ex can safely sit on the Bench and build up towards its Chaotic Impact attack, giving the deck the damage needed to break through high-HP opponents.
Rare Candy - Allows Froakie to instantly evolve into Greninja and start applying pressure with Water Shuriken.
Cyrus - Combos with Greninja to force any opposing Benched Pokémon into the active slot to be picked off.
Irida - The deck's use of Energy allows Irida to potentially give a large heal to any Pokémon.
