Stardust (GO)
Stardust (Japanese: ほしのすな Star Sand) is a type of currency in Pokémon GO. It can be used to power up Pokémon, trade Pokémon, purify Shadow Pokémon, and add a second Charged Attack to Pokémon.
Obtaining Stardust
There are several ways to earn Stardust:

An evolved Pokémon generally yields 200 more than its previous stage. However, Pokémon that can evolve from Baby Pokémon, except Togetic and Lucario, are considered to be unevolved Pokémon so they only award 100 when caught, and their evolved forms only award 300 when caught.
Certain Pokémon species yield higher Stardust on capture, overriding the values in the above table. These Pokémon are:

The completion of certain Field Research and Special Research tasks awards Stardust at varying amounts. Unlocking a Research Breakthrough awards 2,000.
Stardust can also be earned for participating in GO Battle League. Stardust is rewarded upon winning a certain number of battles, completing a set of five battles, and the end of a season, with the amount varying based on the player's performance.
Sleeping with a Pokémon GO Plus + can earn up to 2,500 Stardust a night depending on how long the player sleeps.
If the player has a Star Piece active, all Stardust earned is temporarily increased by 50%.
Uses
Power up

Powering Up a Pokémon requires both Stardust and Candy, the amount required increasing with the Pokémon's current power up level (which increases every time it is Powered Up). The amount of Stardust and Candy required for the next power up is shown on the Pokémon's summary screen and increases every four power up levels.
Trade

Trading Pokémon costs both players Stardust. While all regular trades cost 100, Special Trades (Legendary, Mythical, and Shiny Pokémon) cost much more Stardust. The cost of Special Trades decreases the higher the Friendship level between the players.
New Attack

The player can spend Stardust and Candy to teach a Pokémon a second Charged Attack. In addition, Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, Kakuna, Magikarp, Ditto, Wynaut, Wobbuffet, Smeargle, Wurmple, Silcoon, Cascoon, Taillow, Feebas, Beldum and Kricketot cannot learn a second Charged Attack, unless they are Shadow or Purified, thus have Frustration or Return.
The cost varies depending on the Pokémon species and largely corresponds with the distance needed to walk for a Buddy Pokémon to find a Candy. In addition Shadow Pokémon, compared to their base forms, requires 1.2× Stardust and Candy to learn a second Charged Attack, while Purified Pokémon require 0.8× the base amounts.

Purification

Shadow Pokémon can be purified using both Stardust and Candy, with the amount required depends on the Shadow Pokémon's species.
Adventure Effects

Some moves, like Roar of Time, can be used outside of battles for additional effects outside of battle. Each Adventure Effect costs a certain amount of Stardust and Pokémon candy.

Trivia
- Previously, Shadow Pokémon did not give bonus Stardust if caught (for example, Shadow Sableye only gave 100 Stardust instead of 750). This was changed in an unspecified update.
