The Pokémon franchise arrived in Iceland in 2000, with the broadcast of EP001.
Pokémon video games
Various Pokémon games are sold in Iceland, but they are left in English. In Iceland, there were always two distributors selling games: The first one was from 1986 Bergsala AB, and the second one was Hljomco HF (which was purchased in 1998 by Ormsson, which sells Nintendo products to this day).[1]
Pokémon animation
The Pokémon animated series started airing in 2000 on RÚV, though only the first 52 episodes of the first season aired in Iceland. This was mostly due to the show's low popularity in Iceland. The episodes were never published on physical media or any streaming service due to licensing issues and the small potential market, but they can be viewed by appointment with RÚV's archival service at their office.
In Iceland, the animated series is available on Netflix.
Pokémon movies
The first five movies were also dubbed. M01 was released on July 21, 2000, under the title Pokémon: Fyrsta myndin - Mewtwo á móti Mew. M02 was released later that year on December 26, 2000, under the title Pokémon 2: Vald eins. M03 was released on May 11, 2001 before being made available on DVD under the title Pokémon 3: Álög Unown. M04 was released on October 10, 2003 under the title Pokémon 4 - Að Eilífu. M05 was released on September 24, 2004 under the title Pokémon 5 - Hetjur.
An Icelandic subtitled version of POKÉMON Detective Pikachu was shown in cinemas on May 10, 2019.

The Icelandic dub of Pokémon is based on the English dubs by 4Kids Entertainment.
The dubbing of the fifth movie was made by Studio Sýrland.

Music
The Pokémon Theme was sung by Vilhjalmur Godi Fridriksson as the lead and Pétur Örn Gudmundsson as backing vocals. The movie version of Pokémon Johto was sung by Kristján Gíslason and Eva Albertsdóttir, with Erna Þórarinsdóttir and Eva Albertsdóttir as backing vocals. The movie version of Believe in Me was sung by Sverrir Bergmann and Friðrik Sturluson.
