Xerneas Gives (Japanese: ゼルネアス、与える Xerneas, Give) is the 593rd chapter of the Pokémon Adventures manga, and the 45th chapter of the X & Y arc.
Plot
With Viola and Yvette leading, the team of Vivillonists descend onto Kalos Route 10 to rescue the Pokémon of Pokémon Village from having their life forces drained away, in order to give Alexa, Clemont and Bonnie an opening to destroy the ancient absorbers powering the ultimate weapon. Chalmers and his fellow Team Flare Admin realize that Viola's team has used Electric Terrain and Safeguard to get around their armies of Pokémon guarding the area by preventing their own teams from falling asleep. Malva's Delphox intervenes, using a Fire Spin from its wand and breathing out Mystical Fire to keep both teams at bay. Viola orders all the Vivillon to join formation with Hold Hands and release an expanding Safeguard to protect them from the fire, and the operation continues anew. Desperate, Chalmers prepares to call for backup, only for Wulfric to pick up the call, confirming that the Kalos Gym Leaders have dealt with Team Flare's remaining backup and will be on their way to finish the job. Falling to his knees, Chalmers laments that the end has come for Team Flare.
Elsewhere, the Vaniville Town children continue battling the Team Flare Scientists. With a powerful Inferno from her Houndoom, Mable melts Tierno's roller skates and badly injures him; to her irritation, his Corphish refuses to let go. Tierno confirms that like his Corphish, he refuses to give up the fight, having waited five years to see his friend X step out into the outside world again. Corphish promptly evolves into Crawdaunt, knocking out both Mable and Houndoom with Guillotine. Meanwhile, Shauna and her Skitty Neko tussle with Celosia and her Doublade without appearing to deal much damage. Mocking Shauna for her weakness, Celosia taunts Shauna for falling for her Aegislash's illusions, suggesting that right now she's being affected by an illusion just like before. As Shauna falters, Doublade knocks Neko to the ground, but Shauna has Neko respond with a Feint Attack that instantly knocks Doublade out. Shocked, Celosia inspects Doublade to find that Neko was using Play Rough to smother Doublade's edges with its fur and dull its strength. Shauna admits her weakness, but adds that she came prepared by borrowing Korrina's Lucario to shield her from Aegislash's powers, and only played along to get Celosia to lower her guard. She orders a combination of Foresight and Aura Sphere from Lucario, defeating Celosia. Collapsing from the effort, Shauna thinks of Korrina and Gurkinn, relieved that she avenged all of them. Tierno arrives on the scene, and the two friends ask where Trevor is.
Caught by Croaky's combination attack, Bryony has her Bisharp tear through the trap with its blades. Seeing a silhouette nearby, Bisharp slices into the neck of what turns out to be a decoy of Trevor made with frubbles. This allows Croaky to strike them both from above with Water Shuriken laced with Fairy Wind from Trevor's Floette, knocking them out. Jumping out from his hiding place, Trevor is caught by Aliana who threatens to decapitate him for real, but Aliana is quickly accosted by Tierno and the others, who threaten to do the same to her if she doesn't stand down. Surrounded and without options, Aliana glumly complies.
With his team of five Mega Evolved Pokémon battling Lysandre and Zygarde, X enters a trance, rendering him unable to hear Y's warnings as Lysandre's other Pokémon prepare to attack him directly. Only the intervention of Blue and Blaine manage to keep X safe. Blaine confirms that Mega Evolution puts a Trainer's body under considerable strain to maintain the phenomenon; now that X is maintaining five of them at once, his mind and body are under immense pressure and the only thing he can focus on is defeating Zygarde. As the battle continues, Y, Cassius and Emma observe green blobs emerging from Zygarde. Recalling that Zygarde is made out of countless cells, they wonder if X is dealing enough damage to cause Zygarde to break apart, but Blaine suggests that there might be another reason.
Trevor, Tierno and Shauna move to regroup with X and Y, only to find both Xerxer and Yveltal stuck frozen in a deadlock, with their eyes both blank and Xerxer's horns in Neutral mode. Telepathically, Xerxer reaches out to the five Vaniville children, explaining that it realized that this eventuality would happen as soon as it battled Zygarde, who only appeared in response to the endless battle between itself and Yveltal. Now that Zygarde is being exploited by Lysandre, Xerxer realized the only way to force Zygarde out of the picture is to seal itself and Yveltal away. As the two Legendary Pokémon revert to their dormant forms, Xerxer bids the children farewell and tells them not to give up hope, turning into its tree form with Yveltal's cocoon wrapped around it, before the two sink into the ground. To Lysandre's horror, he finds Zygarde disintegrating into its component cells, and X uses the opportunity to order a combination attack from his five Mega Evolved Pokémon, sending Lysandre flying and dissipating Zygarde. Noticing the battle from above, Malva tries to reach for Lysandre; her distraction allows Diantha to knock both Malva and her Talonflame out of the air. As Malva plummets to the ground, Diantha reaches out to grab Malva to safety, but Malva slaps Diantha's hand away to instead reach for Lysandre. The two of them hit the ground with a sickening crunch.
As the onlookers move around him, Lysandre weakly calls out for Malva, asking why the ultimate weapon has not been fired. As X and Y regroup with their friends, Blaine confirms that while Lysandre survived the fall, he also suffered grievous damage to his spinal cord and will likely never fully recover. Laughing bitterly, Malva remarks that both Lysandre and her have fallen from grace; despite Blaine trying to assure her that Lysandre shielded her from significant physical injury, Malva points out that Lysandre will no longer be able to protect her anymore. Diantha asks if Malva's loyalty to Lysandre was out of love for the man, but Malva retorts that she always planned on stabbing Lysandre in the back once Team Flare's plans came to fruition, since Lysandre brought her "nothing but humiliation". Smiling at Diantha, Malva remarks that she would rather die than accept Diantha's pity.
The Kalos Gym Leaders regroup with Viola's team, enjoying a celebratory moment at having prevented the ultimate weapon from firing again. Shauna's Furfrou looks over Malva's defeated Delphox in worry, while the Elite Four solemnly carry Malva's unconscious body from the battlefield.
With the battle over, the Vaniville children are brought back to Lumiose City by Professor Sycamore, parting ways with Cassius and Emma. In the city, the children are stunned to see the populace go about their lives as if nothing happened. Shauna is aghast at their attitudes, given how close everyone came to losing their life; Tierno attempts to reassure her, but he overhears some townsfolk referring to him and his friends as dirty street urchins, and his face falls. X remarks that the people of Lumiose are able to be happy-go-lucky unlike them, since they witnessed Vaniville Town's destruction; at the same time, the people who supported Team Flare are now also able to go back to their lives without repercussions. As Y and Shauna voice their disapproval, Trevor begins wondering if they'll ever be able to fit into society again. Just then, AZ arrives on the scene, asking the children how they intend to continue living in Kalos.
