As Black marvels over the size of Castelia City, White soon stumbles upon him. She tells Black she found a new business opportunity with a massage company, and asks if she can use Tep. At the massage shop, Gigi and Tep take part in a photoshoot for an advertisement. As the camera crew and others work, some of them recognize the two Tepig from their fame.

A short while after the job is finished, White tells Black that the photoshoot was such a success that he has now worked off half of his debt. Rewarding him with Casteliacones, she goes on to explain that she has chosen to support Black's dream by covering his expenses. In return, she asks for Black to continue working for her, and wear her company's logo when he makes it to the Pokémon League, to which he gladly agrees. White goes to thank Tep for its help as well, but suddenly, it begins jittering. Black explains it is a sign Tep is about to evolve, horrifying White. To protect her business, she takes Tep into her hands and shakes it to manually cancel its Evolution. Before Black can react, an alarm on his Xtransceiver sounds, reminding him of his upcoming Gym battle. He begins to leave, but not before White can give him a full schedule of activities for him and Tep.

At Studio Castelia, as Burgh admires his new painting, he is interrupted by the sudden arrival of Iris, who scolds him for not preparing himself for the arrival of his next challenger. Greeting Iris, Burgh asks for her honest opinion of his painting. She claims he has lost his touch, causing him to collapse in shock. To cheer him up, Iris notes that he smells like honey, prompting him to enthuse that this is due to the new architecture he set up around his Gym.

Burgh arrives late to the Castelia Gym, to Black's frustration. For Black to succeed in this Gym, Burgh tells him that he will have to make his way through a maze of honey in order to reach him. Working quickly, Black clears the maze to arrive at the battle stage.

Burgh begins the Gym battle by sending out Whirlipede. Black is about to call on Tep for its type advantage, but worries about causing it to evolve. Instead, he sends Brav to fight, commanding it to use Air Slash. The supereffective hit knocks out Whirlipede, leading Burgh to switch to his Dwebble. Dwebble quickly uses Smack Down to bring Brav to the ground. As Brav loses consciousness, Black realizes that it had been poisoned from its encounter with Whirlipede, which weakened it greatly. Black chooses Tula for his next Pokémon, and this prompts Burgh to swap Dwebble for Leavanny.

Meanwhile, Bianca has recently arrived in Castelia City during her and Cheren's continued search for Black. She goes to look for him through a dark alley, and decides to send out her Litwick to light the way. As she and her Pokémon walk together, Bianca is attacked by a Team Plasma Grunt and his Amoonguss. She is knocked unconscious with its spores, allowing the Grunt to steal her Litwick.
