While many cards in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket reuse artwork from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, this was the first of a small number of instances where the names of the originating card and the TCG Pocket card do not match; the illustration originates from a TCG card called Morty's Gengar, while this card is simply called Gengar.

This card's illustration was first featured on Morty's Gengar from the Pokémon VS expansion, which was only released in Japan.
