Fusion (GO)

Fusion is the merging of two Pokémon into one. Fusion was introduced to Pokémon GO on May 30, 2024. Like in the core series, the process is technically a form change of the base Pokémon, where the Pokémon being Fused with becomes inaccessible. Rather than using an item, the base Pokémon consumes Fusion Energy, its own Candy, and Candy of the other Pokémon. Unlike Mega Evolution and Primal Reversion, Fusions last indefinitely unless the player separates the Fused Pokémon, there is no discount when Fusing a previously Fused Pokémon, and multiple Pokémon can be Fused at the same time.^[1]

Activation

Activating a Fusion is done on the summary page of the base Pokémon. Fusion costs 1,000 Fusion-specific Energy, another eligible Pokémon in the Pokémon Box, and 30 Candy of both Pokémon. The Pokémon that is being Fused into the base Pokémon will become inaccessible; it will still appear in and use a slot in the Box, but it cannot be used in battles, traded, powered up, set as the Buddy Pokémon, or transferred to Professor Willow or to Pokémon HOME. The trade and transfer restrictions also apply to the resulting Fused Pokémon.^[1]

The Fused Pokémon carries over all attributes—Poké Ball, shininess, power up level, Buddy level, etc.—from the base Pokémon (i.e. the Fused Pokémon will only be Shiny if the base Pokémon is Shiny, regardless of the shininess of the Pokémon being Fused with).^[1] The Fused Pokémon can be powered up or set as the player's Buddy, but if the Fused Pokémon is later Separated, these effects will only apply to the base Pokémon. Separating a Fusion is free.

A player can have multiple Fused Pokémon, even of the same Fusion, so long as they have enough base Pokémon, Pokémon to Fuse with, Fusion Energy, and Candy. Repeatedly Fusing the same Pokémon, or performing multiple Fusions, does not lower any Fusion Energy or Candy costs.^[1]

Effects

Fused Pokémon have improved Combat Power over the base Pokémon,^[1] though not necessarily an increase of all stats. They can be used in all types of battles. Some Fused Pokémon have different types from the base Pokémon, and certain Fusions receive a special Charged Attack.

Fusing two Pokémon with certain Special Backgrounds will result in a unique Special Background behind the Fused Pokémon.

Fusion Raids

Fused Pokémon may appear as Raid Bosses for Fusion Raids.^[1] Upon completion, the raid rewards Fusion Energy that corresponds to the Raid Boss. Unlike Mega Raids or Primal Raids, the amount of Fusion Energy rewarded is random; each Fusion Raid yields between 80 and 200 Fusion Energy.^[2] Upon defeat, the Raid Boss will Separate: the base Pokémon can be caught during the bonus challenge, while the Pokémon it was Fused with will disappear.
