Ceruledge (Japanese: ソウブレイズ Soublades) is one of the main characters of PT16. It is a Shiny Pokémon.

History

Shiny Charcadet (right) and its friend (left)

Ceruledge was once a wild Charcadet that traveled alongside its non-Shiny Charcadet friend. The two were seen trying to reach some Sitrus Berries up on a tree, but fell short every single time. Driven by hunger, the non-Shiny Charcadet robbed a passing traveler of his sandwich without him noticing. Although initially refusing to share the reward, it gave half the meal to its friend when its stomach growled.

Later, while playing in West Province (Area Three), the two came across a Rotom Phone. The device flew into regular-colored Charcadet's face and began to display clips of a battle tournament held in Mesagoza. The battles enthralled it so much it failed to notice the phone's owner, Yūto, approaching it, though Shiny Charcadet hid between a tree. Yūto challenged it to a battle for the phone with his Shroomish. The normal-colored Charcadet was quickly overwhelmed, and although nervous, the Shiny Charcadet climbed a tree to grab a Sitrus Berry and help. By the time it did so, however, Yūto had defeated regular-colored Charcadet and offered it a spot on its team. Left alone, Shiny Charcadet watched as its friend abandoned it.

The Malicious Armor Charcadet used to evolve

Charcadet traveled through the region to try and find its friend, but did not accomplish it, and eventually sought refuge inside an abandoned building and made its home there. One day, it came back from foraging to discover four Bronzor and a Gengar, which had been eating its food. Gengar easily overwhelmed it in battle, so Charcadet, remembering being abandoned and compelled by a nearby set of Malicious Armor, steeled its resolve and broke free. It touched the Malicious Armor and evolved into Ceruledge. Harnessing its newfound power, it used a combination of Shadow Claw and Bitter Blade to triumph over its foes.

Ceruledge battling Armarouge

Some time later, a new battle tournament began in Mesagoza. Ceruledge ventured there, knowing that it would find its former friend. It waited on the battlefield until Armarouge and Yūto arrived. Locking eyes, Ceruledge immediately attacked the Fire Warrior Pokémon. Armarouge attempted to counter, but Ceruledge used its speed and a nearby Grimmsnarl as a shield. It was then that Armarouge realized the Ceruledge was its former friend, Charcadet.

Ceruledge retreated to the rooftops, and Armarouge followed on its own. Both parties exchanged blow after blow before unleashing their final attack and landing back on the battlefield. Although it looked as if Armarouge was about to lose, Ceruledge ended up collapsing. With the fight over, Armarouge laid next to Ceruledge and the two shared a laugh together for the first time in ages. Yūto, realizing the two were close, offered Ceruledge a spot on his team. The Shiny Pokémon refused, having accepted that their paths no longer aligned. The two separated once more, this time having a proper goodbye.

Later on, Ceruledge was shown to have returned to the abandoned building and befriended the Bronzor and Gengar.

Personality and characteristics

Ceruledge and its friends

As a Charcadet, it was shy and tended to hide from anyone but its friend. This timid nature led to it depending on its regular-colored Charcadet friend to handle situations. After being abandoned, however, it grew bold enough to brave scary situations. Upon accepting that its friend had left it for good, it shed its shy personality and gained a newfound set of confidence. In battle, it was not afraid to use dirty tactics, such as using another Pokémon as a shield.

It cared greatly for its regular-colored Charcadet friend, searching all across Paldea to reunite with it and crying when it believed it had found it. Eventually its abandonment turned to resentment, and it sought out its friend not to reunite, but for revenge. Upon being defeated, however, it accepted that they each had different paths to walk and parted on good terms.
