nuib

Alternative forms

Etymology

From Latin obviō, most likely becoming prefixed at a later stage (as is relatively common of Balkan Romance verbs). Less likely from a hypothetical Vulgar Latin *inobviō. Cognate to Istro-Romanian ăniurbå. The expected Romanian cognate was likely displaced by the verb of Hungarian origin întâlni multiple centuries ago. Compare also the related Romanian regional noun uib.
