Etymology

From natal +‎ -ity, perhaps after mortality. Compare French natalité (birthrate) and Middle English natalyte (birth).[1] Philosophical usage introduced by Hannah Arendt.

natality (countable and uncountable, plural natalities)

  1. (demography) The ratio of live births in an area to the population of that area; expressed per 1000 population per year.
  2. (philosophy) The human ability to create new ideas, institutions and frameworks out of nothing.
