Etymology

Perhaps derived from the root -iahiaʼk- (cross over) as seen in tetià꞉iaʼks (I cross over), referring to crossing over from finger-counting on one hand to the other. If true then inherited from Proto-North Iroquoian *-jahjaɁk-.
