cordless phone

English

Noun

cordless phone (plural cordless phones)

  1. A telephone unit that has a battery-powered telephone handset that uses, instead of a cord, wirless RF signals to communicate to a base station which is attached by wires to a landline and can function as a charger for a receiver.

Usage notes

  • This does not cover mobile phones or radiotelephones (other kinds of wireless telephones) as the RF signal is used to communicate from the base to the handset, and not from the telephone unit to the telephone network.
