Borrowed from Moroccan Amazigh ⴰⵎⴰⴹⴰⵍ (amaḍal, “world”), itself from Kabyle amaḍal (“world”), from Tuareg amăḍal (“soil,earth”), ultimately from Proto-Berber *m-ḍ-l (“to bury, to be buried”). Doublet of asmḍl and ismḍl.
