Borrowed from Moroccan Amazigh ⴰⵎⴰⴹⴰⵍ (amaḍal, world), itself from Kabyle amaḍal (world), from Tuareg amăḍal (soil,earth), ultimately from Proto-Berber *m-ḍ-l (to bury, to be buried). Doublet of asmḍl and ismḍl.
