Etymology

Compound of Vasa +‎ stad +‎ -en, literally The Vasa Town. In both senses, named after the local street Vasagatan ("The Vasa street"), in turn named after King Gustav Vasa (1496–1560) who is considered the founder of modern Sweden.[1]
