Etymology

Perhaps borrowed from Old Chinese (OC *kreːds, “shell; to wear armor”).[1] Note, however, that this comparison relies on the Zhengzhang reconstruction of the Old Chinese, while the Baxter-Sagart reconstruction is difficult to reconcile.
