Etymology

Cognate to Proto-Turkic *köń- (to burn) and Ket куʼ (kuˀ, coal, soot). According to Khabtagaeva, perhaps borrowed from Proto-Turkic *kö-gen (burning (thing)), a root from which she derives Proto-Turkic *köń- (to burn).[1]
