Etymology

Unknown. Has been compared with Old Norse tár (tear), Danish tår (drop (of liquid)).

Reconstruction

Internal borrowing might also be possible, as e.g. the original distribution in Finnish is rather narrow, only southeastern Finnish dialects; Finnish and Ingrian could ultimately derive from Estonian.
