Etymology

From earlier *šarja, borrowed from Proto-Baltic *śarja(s), (whence dialectal Latvian saris, saŗi pl (pig's bristle, horsehairs, mane of a horse, hairs), standard Latvian sars, Lithuanian šerys).[1] Possibly related to Proto-Germanic *hērą (hair).
