According to Aikio, possibly from Proto-Uralic *ćaŋke (lump, clot), akin to Proto-Samic *čoaŋkē (lump) and Proto-Khanty *ćaŋk (burnt crust).[1] Contains the adjectival suffix +‎ *-ëda.
