Fom the medieval given name Drogo, Drogone, brought into Italy by Normans and other Frankish/Germanic groups (such as the Hauteville clan in 11th century southern Italy; e.g., Drogone d’Altavilla, Count of Apulia & Calabria). The name is of uncertain origin, but compare Proto-Germanic *dreuganą. Also compare the placename Drolshagen.
