Adapted from Arabic البِقَاع (al-biqāʕ, literally “the Beqaa”) or local North Levantine Arabic البْقاع (l-bʔāʕ, l-bqāʕ), seemingly originally from بِقَاع (biqāʕ, “splotches, patches, areas, regions”).
