Bargaila

Lithuanian

Etymology

(Balto-Slavic origin:) Composed of the two stems bárti (to fight) +‎ gailas (strong, powerful).

Compare Belarusian Баргайла / Баргаль / Баргель (Barhajla) and Polish Bargiełło / Bargeł / Bargeł.

(Germanic origin:) Some Germanist scholars who study Baltic onomastics claimed that the name Bargaila and its Slavic cognates are of Gothic origin and that they are composed of bara (born) +‎ gails (lively, wayward, arrogant) (cognated to German Bargel). Although debunked, this perspective disputes analyses that construct the name solely from Balto-Slavic onomastics.
